2024 Installation Honoree | David Bowlby
EBLC to honor David Bowlby with the Ellen O. Tauscher Distinguished Service Award at the 2024 Installation Awards.
DAVID BOWLBY is the founder and President of the Bowlby Group, Inc. Operating a full-service issue advocacy firm, he leverages a multidisciplinary array of expertise including communication, crisis management, community outreach, press, government relations, and land use entitlement. The Bowlby Group has served a wide variety of clients including national corporations, academic institutions, and real estate development firms.
Prior to starting his own company, David served as Vice President of Corporate Strategic Government Alliances at Safeway Inc. Working throughout the United States, he formulated and implemented special projects and strategies to further the goals and objectives of the company. With an emphasis on land use issues, political initiatives/referendums and advocacy of decision makers, David had the unique opportunity to interact with a diverse group of local, state and national elected officials and community leaders. At Safeway, David also served as Director of Public Affairs for the Northern California, Hawaii and Western Nevada region. While leading the government affairs both locally and statewide for the region, he was also responsible for all press and media interactions while implementing the regional philanthropic efforts.
Before his tenure at Safeway, David had the privilege of working with Representative Ellen Tauscher during her first term in Congress. From this time onward, a lifelong friendship and bond was formed between Ellen and David.
David has served on the East Bay Leadership Council Board of Directors for 20 years, having held numerous roles on the Executive Committee. He acted as chair of the board from 2012-2013, during which he led a special Visioning Committee that paved the way for a regional policy focus and an organizational rebrand from Contra Costa Council to the East Bay Leadership Council.
Along with his commitment to EBLC, David was appointed to and chaired the Danville Planning Commission, Alamo Municipal Advisory Council, and the San Ramon Regional Valley Planning Commission. He served as a member to both the De La Salle High School Board of Trustees and the Board of De Marillac Academy in San Francisco. He is a past board member of the Diablo Regional Arts Association and the California Symphony. In addition, he has served as a state delegate to two Assemblymembers, chaired Ellen Tauscher’s campaign finance committee, and currently sits on Congressman Adam Schiff’s finance committee for his U.S. Senate campaign.
David is the proud parent of two sons, and he and his spouse Manny reside in Blackhawk.
