What does your organization currently do with its retired technology?
Consider giving your tech a second home; you can help eliminate our community’s digital divide and have a 25 times lighter environmental footprint than recycling the equipment as eWaste. Please consider aiding our mission by donating your technology to Oakland Technology Exchange West (OTX).
OTX aims to bring digital equity to the East Bay by supporting residents with home technology, Internet access, and basic digital skills. Over the last 20 years, OTX has refurbished more than 40,000 computers for homes, schools, and other community partners, diverting over 700 tons of eWaste. Our solution is fueled by organizations that donate their retired equipment for reuse.
A majority of computers we refurbish are provided at no cost to lowincome families new to having home Internet.
We load computers with handpicked software and educational resources, and offer training and a warranty to ensure families stay connected. A portion of computers are also installed in schools and community centers, supported by OTX to ensure they are functional and well maintained.
We value your organization’s privacy and securely erase all data from hard drives. As part of our refurbishing process, computers are reimaged with a fresh operating system.
We gladly accept desktops, laptops, LCD monitors, keyboards, mice, functional printers, cables, and other peripherals. Computers that are obsolete or not functional are used for parts to build working computers. For parts that we cannot use, we use local electronics recyclers to dispose of the components in an environmentally responsible manner.
Equipment may be dropped off at our warehouse in West Oakland on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 25pm. For larger donations of 20+ items, please contact us to schedule a pickup.
OTX the goal of supporting over 10,000 residents with home technology in the next four years.
We will close the digital divide in our community through equipment contributions from organizations such as yours. We appreciate your consideration in joining us to equip all East Bay residents with the technology they need and deserve.
