The July Water Task Force meeting featured a presentation by Paul Gilbert-Snyder from the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) on EBMUD’s recent Recycled Water Master Plan Update. Currently, EBMUD has a recycled water capacity of 9.2 Million Gallons a Day (MGD), which they hope to increase to 20 MGD by 2040.

Reaching this goal will require careful planning and investment. To craft an updated plan, EBMUD evaluated both non-potable reuse alternatives and potable reuse alternatives. In considering these potential recycled water projects, EBMUD evaluated factors such as cost, regulatory requirements, and energy use. The completed Master Plan Update included recommended projects, most of which are non-potable.
