Environmental and Manufacturing Task Force Update

The October Environmental and Manufacturing Task Force meeting featured a presentation from Markus Niebanck of Amicus Environmental Consulting about the Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund and brownfield and urban-infill projects. Mr. Niebanck brought forward a potential policy change to the Underground Storage Tank Cleanup Fund that would aim to make the fund more accessible to a broader array of projects.

Currently, the fund is somewhat restrictive and has encountered accounting issues over the years. However, Mr. Niebanck believes it is worth considering how the fund might be used and/or restructured to better serve the public and perhaps even lead to increased opportunities to build housing. The Environmental and Manufacturing Task Force is hoping to work with the Housing Task Force to evaluate the feasibility of this proposal.
