Take the Juneteenth Pledge

Why pledge

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Observing this day is a positive step, but we can and should do more as East Bay business leaders to elevate this day on the calendar.

We believe Juneteenth should be recognized as a paid holiday for employees as a day to celebrate freedom, learn our history, and come together as a community.

Who can pledge

Our goal is to receive pledges from designated business representatives who attest that their company is committing to the pledge. However, we also welcome individuals who are committed to being allies to the cause.

The pledge

  • We will make Juneteenth a paid holiday for all employees.

  • We will support Black-owned businesses and invest in the community.

  • We will educate ourselves and others on the history of Juneteenth.
